McDonalds Financials Q3 2013

McDonalds reported today Q3 financial results.
Ironically, Q3 results are good enough to spark new riots for wage increases.

McDonalds posted higher revenues, operating income and earnings per share compared with the prior year.
That is particularly impressive given that MCD “has ongoing P&L pressures including higher labor and commodity costs” as declared by the CEO during the earnings conference call.
MCD pricing ability is quite limited indeed.
Noteworthy to mention is another comment from the CEO: “in the broader industry we’re seeing a lot of discounting, price discounting […] we have seen a lot of, I’ll say, sporadic price discounting across the marketplace.”

Q3 results included:
• sales +0.9%
• revenues +2%
• operating income +6%
• Diluted earnings per share $1.52, +6%
• $1.3 billion returned to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases
• quarterly dividend +5% to $0.81 per share

For Q4, MCD expects global comparable sales performance to be in-line with recent quarterly trends while restaurant margin percentages are expected to decline at a level relatively similar to first quarter results.
Global comparable sales for the month of October are expected to be relatively flat.

Only the income statement details were unveiled so far.
